Draft: a lawyer must review this before launch

Privacy policy

Hearth is a coaching app for couples. What you write here can be very personal, so this page says plainly what we keep, who can see it, and what you can do about it.

Who we are

Hearth is run by [company name and address], in Slovenia. We are the controller of your data. You can reach us at hello@thehearth.si.

What we collect

Your account: your email address and the first name you choose to show.
What you write: your quiz answers, reflections after a step, weekly check-in scores and notes, short notes you send your partner, and your messages to Ember, our AI coach. Items you add to the shared board, the wish board (with photos if you add them) and the thank-you notes.
About you two (optional): whether you have children and how old the youngest is, whether you live together or apart, and the topics you would like to work on. Only you can see your answers. They help us suggest what to do next.
Closeness (optional, off until you switch it on): your Yes, Maybe or No answers to the exercise. Your partner sees only the items you both marked Yes or Maybe.
What you do: which steps you finished and when, and the dates you signed up and agreed to our terms.
Safety: if a quiz answer or something you write suggests you or your partner may be unsafe, we record that a safety signal appeared so shared activities can pause. We do not record why in a way your partner can see.
The waitlist: if you leave your email on our home page, we keep it with the optional text you wrote.
On your device: your sign-in, your chosen country for support numbers, a draft of your quiz answers until you sign in, an invite code you are using, and a few settings. These are needed to run the app. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies, so there is no cookie banner.

Why we use it, and our legal basis

To run the service you asked for: sign-in, the program, check-ins and the coach. This is necessary to provide Hearth to you.
Some of what you write is sensitive, because it concerns your relationship and wellbeing, and may reveal things about your health or private life. We use it only with your explicit consent (Article 9(2)(a) of the GDPR), which you give when you sign up in a separate step, and which you can withdraw at any time by deleting your account. Withdrawing does not affect what we did before.
To keep people safe and the service secure, and to count how many couples use Hearth in total, without looking at who wrote what. This rests on our legitimate interest in running a safe service.

Who can see it

You. Your partner sees only what you choose to share: your name, which steps you finished, and anything you mark as shared. Your quiz answers, reflections, notes and coach chat stay private unless you share them, and we ask you to confirm before anything becomes visible.
We do not sell your data and we do not show advertising. The Hearth team does not read your private writing as part of normal work. Access is limited to what is needed for support, safety or legal duties. Ember never reads the notes you send your partner.

Companies that help us

Supabase hosts our database and sign-in. Our project is hosted in the EU.
Anthropic provides the AI behind Ember. When you talk to Ember, your messages and the part of your week Ember is allowed to read are sent to Anthropic, which is in the United States, to write a reply. Ember never receives your partner’s private writing. Anthropic acts as our processor under a data processing agreement. [How long Anthropic keeps these messages, and that they are not used to train its models: to be confirmed from its terms.]
Cloudflare serves this website. [Email provider] sends your sign-in and confirmation emails.
Where a company handles data outside the EU, we rely on the standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission, as included in that company’s data processing agreement.
Ember is an AI, not a person. It does not make decisions that have legal or similar effects on you, and nothing it says is a diagnosis.

How long we keep it

We keep your data while your account exists. When you delete your account, we delete what you wrote and your account, and your partner keeps only what is theirs.
Waitlist emails are kept until you ask us to remove them, or [number] months, whichever comes first.
Safety signals are deleted with your account. Backups are kept for [number] days and then overwritten.

Your rights

You can download a copy of everything we store about you from the Me tab, and delete your account and your data there too. You can correct your name in the same place.
You can also ask us to correct, restrict or stop using your data, withdraw your consent, or object to how we use it, by writing to hello@thehearth.si. We answer within one month. You have the right to complain to your data protection authority. In Slovenia this is the Information Commissioner (Informacijski pooblaščenec).

Emergencies and safety

Hearth is not an emergency service and nobody watches it in real time. If you are in danger, call your local emergency number. If something you write suggests you may be unsafe, Hearth shows you support lines for your country. It does not contact anyone on your behalf.

Age

Hearth is for people aged 18 and over.

Changes

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will tell you in the app before it applies. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
